The piece

The piece

This sculptural stool is a one-of-a-kind work of functional art, handcrafted from solid hardwood and charred using the traditional shou sugi ban technique. Its bold geometric silhouette combines a gently curved saddle-shaped seat with a broad, angular base, creating a striking balance between architectural precision and the organic character of natural timber.

The seat features a subtle concave profile, with softly raised ends that follow the natural movement of the wood. Deeply pronounced grain patterns flow across the surface, preserved beneath a rich matte-black finish. The contrasting geometry of the lower section introduces a sense of tension and balance, while the visible growth lines and textured edges reveal the material’s original structure.

Made entirely by hand using chainsaws, carving tools, and open flame, this piece reflects a process rooted in raw material and intuitive craftsmanship. The carbonized surface emphasizes the natural grain and texture of the wood, transforming a simple geometric form into an expressive sculptural object. Its solid construction and carefully shaped proportions combine everyday functionality with the presence of collectible design.

Perfect as an accent stool, occasional seat, or standalone sculptural statement in interiors that embrace elemental beauty and understated luxury. Its dark, architectural character complements wabi-sabi, Japandi, brutalist, minimalist, and contemporary spaces, offering a distinctive contrast to softer materials and lighter surroundings.

Sealed with natural oils and waxes to preserve the depth and integrity of the charred finish. Designed and made in Europe by Logniture, a studio dedicated to transforming raw timber into expressive, heirloom-grade furniture.
